William Whipple (1730-1785) was an American patriot and politician who played an important role in the American Revolution. Born in Kittery, Maine, he later moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Whipple held various positions in local government and supported colonial resistance against British rule. He was elected to represent New Hampshire in the Continental Congress and signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
