Simon Greenleaf

Simon Greenleaf (1783-1853) was an eminent American jurist and scholar. Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Greenleaf displayed exceptional academic abilities from a young age. After graduating from Harvard College, he pursued legal studies at the prestigious Dane Law School. Greenleaf’s reputation as a legal scholar grew as he delved into the complexities of evidence and legal reasoning. In 1833, he published his historic work “A Treatise on the Law of Evidence,” which became a foundational text in the field. Greenleaf’s expertise in evidence led to his appointment as a professor at Harvard Law School in 1834, where he became the renowned Dane Professor of Law.
