Johnny Mercer

Johnny Mercer was an American musician, songwriter, singer, and record label executive. Born on November 18, 1909 in Savannah, Georgia, Mercer was known for his exceptional talent as a lyricist and his unique vocal style. Throughout his career, he wrote over 1,500 songs, including numerous successful jazz and pop standards. Mercer collaborated with a multitude of renowned composers, including Harold Arlen and Henry Mancini, and his work earned him four Oscars for Best Original Song. In addition to his songwriting, Mercer co-founded Capitol Records and served as its president for several years. He continued to contribute to the music industry until his death on June 25, 1976, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the greatest American lyricists.
