Billie Burke

Billie Burke (1884-1970) was an American actress best known for her role as Glinda The Good Witch in the classic film “The Wizard of Oz” (1939). Born as Mary William Ethelbert Appleton Burke in Washington, D.C., she began her acting career in the early 1900s on Broadway, achieving success in comedic roles. Burke made her film debut in 1916 and continued to act in over 85 films throughout her career. Apart from her iconic role in “The Wizard of Oz”, she is also remembered for her roles in films such as “Father’s Little Dividend” (1951) and “Dinner at Eight” (1933). Billie Burke was married to prominent Broadway producer Florenz Ziegfeld Jr., and they had a daughter together. She continued to act on stage and screen until her death in 1970 at the age of 85.
